I served as a judge for Category 4 (Sound for Video) at the AES Europe Convention 2025 in Warsaw. The competition featured audiovisual submissions from students worldwide. Each entry was evaluated in a professional 5.1 surround studio, as several were mixed in immersive formats. I assessed the projects based on mix quality, frequency balance, spatial design, dynamic control, synchronization, technical execution, and overall creative approach.
Scoring and written evaluations were completed prior to the convention. During the event, I joined the other judges in a public 5.1 playback session, where the four finalist submissions were presented to an audience. We provided live feedback over microphone, addressing both the audience and the finalists. I also took part in the award ceremony immediately following the session.
This event reflects my active involvement in audio education. I see value in participating in spaces where students share their work and receive structured, critical feedback based on real production standards.
Below are a few moments captured during the event:
On stage before the session began, holding the mic and smiling as we prepared to start the playback and feedback
The audience and main screen during the review of one of the finalist submissions, with me and the other two judges watching and listening from the sweet spot
